A legacy of great seafood since the 1940s, the site originally housed a shrimp and fish “factory” – an old tin building where mountains of Gulf shrimp were readied for shipment across the country. Shrimp from this very place was served to President John F. Kennedy at the White House. In 1966, the current building was constructed to meet the growing demand for Galveston shrimp, which many have acclaimed as the “best shrimp on Earth.” The proprietor’s wife started serving Shrimp Po-boys to the workers in 1970, and the rest is history!
Tall Ship Elissa
Situated right next door to Fisherman’s Wharf is the Texas Seaport Museum, home of the 1877 tall ship Elissa. Before or after your meal at Fisherman’s Wharf, stroll the decks of this floating National Historic Landmark and experience the adventure of the high seas. In the museum, you can view a film about Elissa’s rescue from the scrap yard and her amazing restoration.
